FR Motor and VESC 75/300 without any power

If you haven’t reset all the settings , max erpm limit can lower as well as the power your rpm …

That looks a bit like Prince Charles on an efoil

Damned!
I run the wizzard, everything was good. Big Inrunner, detected motor current 118,07A,absolut max. 250A, battery current max. 250A.
I changed into 100A current, 130A max. and 130A battery.
The voltage cutoff starts at10,20V and ended at 9V.
I dont know, if this is okay. I put the board into my rain barrel and tried it out. Unfortenately it doesnt work well.
max. 3000rpm and 1300Watt says the vesc tool via BT.
The remote works with 100%
Nice to go foiling with 1300watt,but:
Where is the power?

ok sorry to read this, i am not a expert but i will to help:

sorry if i ask:

  • got familiar with settings: upload, read, mod and write ?
  • motor settings ok i guess, running FOC ?
  • battery voltage cutoff : 3.3v x 13s , end 3v x 13s
  • run wizard on remote ? running duty cycle no reverse ?
  • 100% on remote screen doesn’t mind 100% on vesc, need to check with vesctool if the duty read by the vesc is 100% (95%) full trigger and adjust the end point if not (and apply and write…)
  • check max power ( i guess it is done) and max erpm +60000 at least

you say 3000rpm, how many motor pole you set or is it done by itself ? or what is the erpm?

and you need to check first motor speed off load in the air , should be around 7000 rpm or if i am right 56000 erpm , prefer to use duty cycle mode so rpm will follow the trigger play

I updated the firmware and the vesc tool. It is now FW 5.1 and vesctool 2.06
I run the wizzard, which said:
motor current 108A,max 250A,Batt. 250A
I changed in: current 90A, max 190A, battery 180A (the battery is able to give 90A and max. 190A)
I filled in : Battery cutoff start 42,9V, cutoff end 39V
max. erpm 100000, Wattage 1500000
running FOC, PPM and UART, Duty cicle no reverse, 115200 bps
write motor and app to vesc.
First motortest was horrible. the motor started and there was a loud noise at maybe 1500rpm.
That sounded very bad.
But I think it is a software problem, not a hardware problem.
I made a log, may be it can help you to detect the mistake. How can I upload a csv?
Ah, I forgot to tell: In the old version the vesctool on android showed max erpm 50000.
Exactly 50000, not one more!
May be you can help me.

How many poles does this motor have? Maybe is that the problem. I don`t have any information about this motor.

16 so 8 poles pair if I am correct , Max erpm : 13s x 4,2v x 130kv ? x 8

Is the prop spinning in the right direction?

Yes, it is working in the right direction. I foiled already, but it is too slow.

With an erpm at 50K instead of 56K calculated by Alexandre, your max speed is reduced by 12% so:

  • theoretical max speed: 13s x 4,2v x 130kv = 7098rpm
  • new max speed reduced by VESC erpm number: 7098 x 0.88 = 6246rpm

So the erpm limit should not be your limiting factor since the rpm in water is in the 3000-3500rpm range

Hard to tell , running foc pole doesn’t matter just for easier display, it cannot be a all value even if limited so I guess your 50000 erpm was the max the vesctool android can display ( code written ? But why)

Loaded firmware r1 r2 ?

Before going in the water and apply load on everything I will run test in the air or in the water without prop , to check end point setting for the remote , duty vs max erpm , smooth running …
all data read with RT vesctool

If foc doesn’t work may be try blc

Motor needs to run smooth off load and take all its rpm ( this will check some configuration and remote settings)
Then test on load ( to add the amps )

You don’t need to run wizard , you can go directly on each motor and app page , select the desired mode and run detection and apply , run endpoint for the remote and apply
Then I go to RT I check the values , duty , erpm …

Do you connect via usb or BT for settings ? Because with my rev1 I add trouble running external uart and the internal BT at the same time

There some 75/300 here now , may be can someone tell if it possible to set everything via BT and android on a phone?

after 1,5 hours trying we decided everything is okay. The motor sounds good now.
max erpm are 52000, we changed in duty cycle.

with 52000erpm it must be aroud 6000rpm. Am I right?
I`ll go on the water this afternoon and tell you about…

Just 1/8 so 6500rpm … you are good for motor config and app settings
Now water test for amp ( motor 120A and batt 90A is enough, but you can put more if you want , will make the board more punchy not easier for learning …)

I have to think positive, but thats not easy... I tried it with 89% loaded battery. It felt like 20% I made a log, but I cant interpret it. Maybe someone can explane it.
What I think is that the battery isnt strong enough. But the Maytech remote and the display at the battery said, it is 51 Volt. And with 51 Volt it must go... How can I check, that the battery isnt the problem?

Need a longer display of the log to see

A bad battery would have a massive voltage drop pulling high amp and heat or just don’t give the amps

What battery is it ? Bms included ?

All solders plug … double check , a weak link ?
You cut FR motor wires ?

I cutted the motor wires.
 :disappointed_relieved: :cold_sweat:
Is it a problem?

well You need a good connection between connector wires plug … for amps to flow
Motor wires have a extra hard coating and it is difficult to solder them correctly
Have you took off the coating before solder ? ( some coating don’t melt a solder temp )

Édit : I think FR motor wire are not coated … but it doesn’t to check solders

I didn`t solder the cable, I pressed them professional.
Today I wanna try to test the battery. I hope a specialist can use a testing device . I have to exclude the battery is the problem. After that I do the next step.

where did you get this battery who made it ?
i may said you need at least 40A discharge from it , to have a nice start, voltage and % has nothing to do with the punch for start, as the battery discharge you" loose only voltage" so just a lower top end speed

last year i used 12s8p 30Q cell battery (no bms) and it was enough for fun , a bit hot at the end but enough (so my 24AH battery could discharge a constant 90A)

maybe someone can let you use 2 lipos 6s for testing
