18650-25R 48v battery pack

I read alot of post telling me to stat away fra Lipo, and go for a 18650 battery instead. I found this 18650-25R pack, with 48V 30Ah and 150A peak/50A continues.

Would this be sutiable for a SSS56104 500kv/PLE40 5:1 setup?

That’s a pretty good find, I would check the numbers - INR18650-25R are 3.65v un-like the 3.0v they list on the site.

Not sure the strongest BMS (up to 2800W motor) is enough as our motors are 4000W to 6000W so over discharge protection might be activated:
1200W: 756 USD with 30A BMS for motor: 48V 100W–1200W
2000W: 766 USD with 50A BMS for motor: 48V 100W–2000W
2800W: 781 USD with 70A BMS for motor: 48V 100W–2800W

I thought 150A peak/70A continues at 48v was plenty for our setup?

Alternatively you Could put 2x 2000w 150A/50A 20Ah in parallel and get 13s20p, wouldn’t that be sufficent for our efoils?

My colleague, who is a electrical engineer just confirmed this setup. I you put 2x 2000W 20Ah 48V with 150A peak/50A continues together, you get a 4000W 40Ah 48V battery, with 300A peak/100A continues.

So for $716 (2x358$ / battery) you get a pretty decent batterypack. It is almost cheaper than LiPo batteries, and you shouldn’t have to extinguish any fires. :slight_smile:

If you want same battery pack, but with the branded and more reliable Samsung 18650-25R, the price is $514 per battery.

I know ordereing and receiving large capacity Lithum Batteries by air is a challenge.

Last week i saw both Rsellers of Lyft and Flite in Dubai boat show, who confirmed sending those large batteriy packs by air is a recurrent logistics challenge.

Has anyone had any experience with this supplier/these battery packs they can share?

C14 connnector to connect battery load???
Rated 13A for a 50A load? They also offer XT90 which is more suitable but only the fact that they offer C14 type (which is widely used for 110V/240V AC) for this application puts a huge question mark on their competence and safety awareness. Imagine someone connects a C13 cable and plugs it into 240V socket.

Connector is one thing , but the most important is if the correct wiring is used in the pack , we cannot just solder the discharge wire at the end of the nickel strip , busbar or small wire have to be wired to all cells on + and - ends , most of the pack don’t have this …

Yes I noticed this and thought it strange, maybe a standard on electric bikes? Also maybe is a stock photo for smaller batteries. Won’t know the manufacture quality until someone gets one I guess. Might try and request some photos.

I ended up designing my own batter connect to wrap around my 6.5mm banana connector: look half way down the page.
